SHOOTER ROSTER TESTIMONIALS

Peter Read Miller,

For the 2008 Summer Olympics in China …

I shot RAW on RAW UDMA memory cards from Hoodman.

Why??? RAW memory cards have had Zero Failures Worldwide since their launch over 2 years ago.

Covering the Olympics, you shoot 3 or 4 events a day for 16 days. Almost everything is shot at 10 frames per second. It can be a real test of a memory card. I never worried about missing a shot or losing data- RAW UDMA memory cards at 300X kept me shooting.

RAW UDMA memory cards are built in the USA in small controlled production runs... When the magazine depends my shooting and my memory card, I settle for the best, not the biggest.

I use Hoodman RAW cards because I can't afford not to. I travel to a distant location, expend time, money, and energy to capture the best photographs I'm capable of taking, and my clients expect nothing less. To save a few dollars on cards I don't have confidence in is not an option for me or my client. In my teaching career I have worked with many thousands of digital photographers in the field and I have rescued, or tried to rescue, many captures from failed cards, non of these have been RAW cards.

Many of us are not into capturing HD video with our DSLRs, I work with the Canon EOS 5D MK II. The amount of data captured with this type of camera is even greater than before. I can't afford a failure and the RAW cards don't fail.

Hoodman makes two other products that I use on a regular basis. The Hoodman Loupe is a "must have" in the field and the new 3" version works great on the 5D MK II. Good optics are needed to evaluate an image with a loupe and the Hoodman has excellent quality. I also use the Hoodman UDMA firewire card reader for my CF cards, and when you fill several 16GB RAW cards, the exra speed of transfer is a good thing.

Dear Hoodman Team:

On my latest trip to Spitsbergen in the high Arctic of Norway my first
choice for CompactFlash cards were the Hoodman RAW CF Cards. They are fast, consistent and have never failed me. One time, when I placed another brand of CF card into my Canon EOS Mark III 1Ds, the action picked up with the Polar Bears… the Buffer filled too quickly; I had to wait and it cost me some action shots. Hoodman RAW UDMA CompactFlash memory cards deliver everything this pro needs no matter where I am shooting.

Your new RAW card readers are really fast too. In fact, I lent a RAW UDMA enabled card reader to one of my participant/clients as a 4 GB card of theirs was taking an hour to download. With your reader they were downloading in 4 minutes or less.

I highly recommend Hoodman products to my students and fellow photographers. Hoodman’s innovation, speed and reliability are making this photographer’s job a lot easier.

Sincerely,

Darrell Gulin

I use Hoodman RAW memory cards for all of my wedding photography. I like the fact that Hoodman is a USA niche manufacturer who specializes in making memory cards with components designed to replace hard drives. My RAW cards are faster than my camera burst rate and never fail…

Whether in the studio or out on location, I have found that I can alway trust my Hoodman memory cards to to perform properly 100% of the time. When shooting Merge to HDR or stitching panoramic images in the field, I would be in trouble if one of the exposures in a series is bad. Shooting tethered in the studio allows me to save a version on the cards as backup, while letting the client view the incoming images on the computer screen. The firewire RAW card readers transfer images to the computer very quickly to save time at the end of a shooting session. I rely on my equipment to perform when needed and my Hoodman products can alway be counted on.

Putting together a fast moving fashion shoot involves very expensive models and there is also the considerable cost of the supporting cast: hair stylist, makeup artist, wardrobe stylist, prop stylist, digital photographic assistant, first assistant, caterer and then there's the client and their entourage. The success of the shoot depends on getting the finest group of professionals together to make the photographs. How in the world could I even think of using any memory cards other than Hoodman RAW? These "zero-failure" Compact Flash and SD memory cards store the photographic gold-those irreplaceable camera originals that the client and my livelihood depends upon. Hoodman RAW memory cards are at the top of my gear list for every shoot. Even when shooting tethered into a computer, each photograph is also stored in the camera on Hoodman RAW memory cards. Hard drives fail after all. Hoodman RAW memory cards don't!

"Quite simply, the Hoodman CF cards are the fastest I've ever used. Comparing the Hoodman CF card against the pro level CF card I've been using for years, the difference in
speed was apparent and a bit surprising! As a professional, I have no problem at all paying a bit more for a better product! And the bonus is that it's Made in the USA!!"

"Hoodman's RAW memory cards are in my opinion the standard by which all other cards are measured. From pro-grade construction to buffer-free write speeds to the fact that they put the sticker facing the right direction so I can read it when I put the card in my camera (love that), Hoodman does it right. Highly recommended."

Hoodman compact flash cards are the best in the industry. When I am on a nature photo shoot, whether in my own back yard or thousands of miles away, I can't afford to loose a single image. The reliability of Hoodman cards, which are built to exacting standards in the United States, give me the confidence that my images will be there capture after capture, from landscape photography to my current CURIOUS CRITTERS project.Shooting my 46 megapixel Sigma SD1 camera requires alot of card space and the utmost card speed. Moving that much data is no small task. I use Hoodman UDMA RAW Compact Flash 16GB cards. Durable, safe, and rated 675X, they are up to the task.

Best wishes,

David

Mystuff: My Hoodman stuff

September 2, 2008 ·

I’ve found the accessories I was looking for after many years, in a tradeshow under a strange booth, you’ve guesses it: made like a hood. It’s the helmet of 3 wise brothers who decided to supply only the best accessories for digital photographer and videographer. Of course they remembered me I had hovered around the booth for the complete trade show, like a bee around the ripest sunflower. So I asked what is this yellow CF card about… “The fastest and most reliable card ever” they said. I had heard that soooo many times, “why don’t you try it” they offered. I got 2 on that day. Wow, just taking the card in the hand tells you there is something different, it weight close to double the weight of standard cards… And for speed of writing, I can shoot up tp 18 Raw/Full jpg with my Olympus E-3 before we hit a delay, when I only reach 14 with my 133X card and 11 on the Ultra card…. Numbers say it all. And there is also the Firewire/UDMA reader that transfers to your computer with lightning speed…

The other do-not-leave-home-without-it tool is the “Loupe”. This Hoodman loupe allows you to shade your view of the viewfinder, allowing a clear view even in bright sunlight. It hangs in your neck with a very comfortable rubber lanyard. When you want to look at your image just push the disply button and put your pyramid shaped loupe on the screen and you see the image without the interference of the light. The loupe is equiped with a focusable eyepiece and covers the full screen. On a recent workshop I’ve lended my loupe to some students that could not even change the modes on their cameras due to ambient light..

I recently switched to the Hoodman RAW cards when a couple of my old cards failed. Thankfully I was able to recover the images, but it was a PITA. When I am shooting weddings, the number one priority for me is reliability... there are no do-overs... no re-shoots... no second chances. The shots have to be there. Also, as someone who shoots thousands and thousands of images at every event, speed is also of the essence and I don't ever want to fill my buffer. When I am "workin' it" with a bride and/or groom... I don't want to be slow downed by slow writing cards. RAW cards are fast and reliable and I've been very impressed with their performance so far.

As a wedding photographer, there is no second chance to capture a once in a lifetime event. This is why I trust my images to Hoodman RAW data cards.
After several horrifying experiences with other CF cards, switching to RAW was a no brainer; 0% in field failure rate. You can’t beat that. There’s peace of mind knowing that the images I create on the camera are definitely going to be there when I get back to the studio and download. Also, I am willing to spend a few more dollars knowing my technology is made here in the USA!

We have been teaching workshops and leading tours for many years and have been really happy with the Hoodman Compact Flash cards (as well as the SD cards). We use them over and over and loan them to our participants and always have the confidence of reliability and "no worries" about them failing. Since we do provide the cards in a "lending library" of sorts (for our workshop people to use), these cards go from camera to camera over and over....and it has never been an issue. The fact that they are made in the USA also generates our confidence in the this product. Fast, reliable...a good company to work with....what more could a person want?....The great image, well, you have to get that yourself!!!!

I've been using Hoodman products for 5 years. I use NOTHING else. The Loupe's are phenominal. There's not a shoot that goes without one around my neck. So sharp, crisps and solid. Not sure how a serious photorapher could do without one. The Memory Cards are lightning fast. I have never had a single issue, bad file or corruption EVER. All in all, everything they sell is world class quality. Whether you're a working pro or family photographer, buy the best. Buy HOODMAN!

As Director of the Lepp Institute of Digital Imaging, I instruct over 350 clients a year in weekend and week-long digital photography workshops. All too often, a client has a CF card malfunction and asks the unfortunate "Can you recover my images?" My standard response is "I'll try and you need to upgrade to a Hoodman RAW card." I do not even need to see their equipment before I give this advice. Because in over 18 months with over 500 clients capturing hundreds of thousands of images I have never experienced any issue with Hoodman RAW cards (the same cannot be said for many other brands.) Whether in the field, the studio, or the digital darkroom, Hoodman RAW cards perform impeccably.

With 100% Made in the USA construction, a 0% failure rate, and outstanding read/write and transfer speeds Hoodman RAW cards are the only CF cards recommended by the Lepp Institute. Moreover, in my own personal or commercial photography, I will not shoot with anything else.

I started my studio at the age of twenty-four and here we are sixteen
years later loving photography even more. When I started, I had to
make several decisions Mac Vs Pc Nikon Vs Canon and so on.
I started with other media and I promise you it was scary when you
take a card out, pop it into a card reader to see there is no data.....
I have had the piece of mind and pleasure of using Hoodman RAW CompactFlash memory cards for the past two years. I have not had to do a single recovery and have had no errors which means everything to me....So here I say, go ahead and put all your eggs in one basket, but make sure it’s a Hoodman RAW basket.

thanks guys,

I cover the fastest of the shooting sports in the world. In the world of Practical Pistol Competitions National Championships are sometimes won by Half a Point and a Course of fire is shot in mere seconds. In situations like this where action happens in a fraction of a second reliability and speed are a must. I trust the Hoodman RAW Cards because they are the fastest and the most reliable cards in the industry. The Hoodman Card readers are the best counterparts to the RAW Cards. The download speeds are out of this world. At the 2009 USPSA Nationals I downloaded Four 8GB Cards and two 16 GB Cards and one of my fellow Photographers was still halfway through his first 4GB Card!! It took him 45 minutes to do one 4 GB Card from another brand “X”

The HoodLoupe is the best invention since digital photography!! I shoot 99% of the time in bright sunlight and the Hoodloupe allows me to view my LCD, check my shots, histogram and setting without having to search for shade or my poor eyesight.

Thanks Hoodman, for making my job so much easier and giving me reliability and speed!!

Dear Hoodman,
As a wedding photographer who prides myself on shooting quickly and often being limited by having to wait for data to read to my cards, I was incredibly excited to find a CF card that actually allows me to shoot the way I want to! Since I began using the Raw Memory Hoodman cards, not once have I run into a situation where I had to stop shooting and wait for the card to catch up with me. There's nothing worse than having to wait for my card to be ready while precious, never to happen again moments slip away. These things are so fast, it's insane! Not to mention what a pleasure it is to download now with the Hoodman card reader. Coming home from a wedding I'm so exhausted that waiting hours for my cards to download is really taxing on me. Now my life is so much better!
I've noticed for a long time that different CF card manufacturers have support information on the packages the cards come in. Honestly, I'd rather have a card that just isn't going to fail in the first place, which is why I don't mind paying a little more up front. I take my job very seriously, and would never want to chance such important data to any card that is less than the best. I'd pay triple the price to have that peace of mind!

Anyway, thank you so much for creating a product that is so comforting to have in my arsenal. You are allowing me to do a better job for my clients, and that is priceless!

The cameras was submerged for 5 hours and later recovered. After drying out the card for an hour with a hair dryer, the card successfully loaded and all my treasured and historical images were saved. I was blown away that your cards could handle such abuse, salt water and still function. Amazing!!! Thank you Hoodman for making the best flash cards on the market."

Hoodman and quality are synonymous. The rigors and challenges of high end production are enormous. To produce a high end product, one needs dependable top flight equipment.

Whether I need to block the sun from spilling onto an HD client monitor (or a waveform/vector scope), grab a shot with an EX1, or connect a nanoFlash to an Sony XDCam HD camcorder (for even higher quality), Hoodman USA has me covered.

Their sunshades are often imitated, but never duplicated! Even when we use "run bags" for our monitors, we use the Hoodman sunshade. There's nothing worse than having the top "sag" and block the monitor! They are light weight, rigid, retain their shape and easy to install. We have several models too. Sometimes, the client needs to see the shot without distractions; The high definition 19-20 hood is the benchmark.

The SDHC cards are a FANTASTIC alternative to more expensive media for the Sony XDCam EX line of camcorders. They are rock solid; we've never lost a shot. We shoot all over the world from the 115 degree heat of the Arizona desert to the frigid cold in Russia! The media is flawless.

The compact flash cards aren't just for still photographers! We use them in our Convergent Design nanoFlash HD field recorder. When you're shooting at 280Mbps, you need a card that is not only fast enough for the data stream, but reliable to ensure the media is captured correctly, the first time! These cards are foolproof.

Hoodman USA's customer service is second to none! We know that no matter where in the world our production is taking place, Bob, Lou and the entire Hoodman team are behind us. That kind of confidence is priceless.

Thanks for making our jobs and lives easier. We'd be lost without our Hoodman USA products!

Why STEEL?

First up, how much are photos worth?

More importantly how much are YOUR best photos worth to you?

If you capture an amazing image whilst out on location shooting then until you can back that image up it is priceless.

So when it comes to storing that image in camera there is nothing better than Hoodman Steel cards and that peace of mind is worth the few dollars difference from ‘Brand A’.

So wether I am in the back alleys of India or photographing my kids I only trust those images to Hoodman and they’ve never let me down.
